Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
At True North Clinic, our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services are designed to support individuals on their recovery journey by reducing cravings and easing withdrawal symptoms. MAT combines FDA-approved medications—such as naltrexone, Vivitrol, and Suboxone—with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a whole-person approach to treatment.
What Is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?
Medication-Assisted Treatment is an evidence-based approach to treating opioid and alcohol use disorders. It is not simply replacing one substance with another—it’s a clinical intervention that helps stabilize brain chemistry, relieve cravings, and allow individuals to focus more fully on recovery.
At True North Clinic, MAT is always combined with supportive services such as:
-
Group therapy
-
Peer recovery coaching
-
Case management
-
Life skills and relapse prevention education
This integrated approach helps clients move beyond physical dependence to address the emotional, psychological, and social aspects of recovery.
Medications We Use in MAT

Naltrexone
A non-addictive medication that blocks the effects of opioids and reduces alcohol cravings.

Vivitrol
A long-acting injectable form of naltrexone, typically administered monthly.

Suboxone
A combination of buprenorphine and naloxone that helps manage opioid withdrawal symptoms and cravings with a lower risk of misuse.
Who Is a Good Fit for MAT?
MAT services may be appropriate for individuals who:
MAT is not a one-size-fits-all solution—it’s part of a personalized treatment plan that evolves as the individual progresses through recovery.
A Balanced, Supportive Approach to Recovery
At True North Clinic, we view MAT as a tool—not the whole toolbox. We’re committed to helping each client find what works for them, using medication support when appropriate while building the coping skills, confidence, and community needed for long-term recovery.

Statewide Virtual Services
In addition to in-person services we offer at True North Clinic, we also continue to provide services virtually, also known as telepsychiatry and telehealth services. These cutting-edge healthcare practices enable assessment and treatment through technology, typically by way of video conferencing. This approach opens up treatment opportunities to a wider audience, eliminating barriers like transportation or geographical constraints.
