At True North Clinic, our Residential Program provides a safe, highly supportive setting where individuals fully immerse themselves in recovery and skill-building. We combine clinical treatment, peer support, and life-skill development to help participants lay a strong foundation for long-term change.

What Is ASAM Level 3.1?

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) defines Level 3.1 as low-intensity residential treatment. This level of care offers 24-hour structure with clinical oversight and recovery support services, but with less intensity than inpatient or medically managed residential programs. It is ideal for individuals who need stability and accountability but are not in need of constant medical monitoring.

  • Evidence-based group therapy

  • Peer support & 12-step facilitation

  • Daily routines promoting structure and accountability

  • Life-skills training (budgeting, communication, nutrition)

  • Case management and after-care planning

What You’ll Receive in Our Residential Program

ASAM 3.1 Residential + ASAM 2.5 PHP

Enhanced Treatment Service Within Residential

As part of our Residential Program, participants may have access to an enhanced day treatment service, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), when additional intensity is required. This means that while residing in our structured environment, you can receive the higher level of care that PHP provides, without needing to transition out of the residential setting.

Benefits of PHP:

  • More intensive clinical treatment during the day, paired with the safe, stable environment of residential

  • Flexibility to shift into this enhanced care level if recovery demands increase or if stepping down later

  • Seamless transition and continuity of care within one program

Who it’s for:
This PHP option is appropriate for residents who:

  • Require more clinical intensity while living in our residential setting

  • Are stepping down from an inpatient level of care and need both structure and enhanced therapy

  • Would benefit from a day regimen of higher level care, while remaining in the safe community and housing provided by residential
